What religion is The Kid Laroi?
The Kid Laroi is an Australian singer and songwriter who identifies with the Christian faith, though he is generally considered a secular artist.
The Kid Laroi international breakthrough came through a combination of streaming success, high-profile collaborations, and chart-topping releases. After signing with Grade A Productions and Columbia Records, he became one of the youngest Australian artists to achieve major commercial success in the United States. His mixtape F*ck Love reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit “Without You,” which became a global success following its remix with Miley Cyrus. His collaboration with Justin Bieber, “Stay,” became one of the biggest songs of the 2020s, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and charts in numerous countries while earning multi-platinum and Diamond certifications. He expanded his catalogue with the studio album The First Time, featuring “Love Again” and “Too Much” with Jungkook and Central Cee, followed by Before I Forget, which continued his commercial success on the Billboard 200 and ARIA Albums Chart.
The Kid Laroi has collaborated with artists including Juice WRLD, Justin Bieber, Jungkook, Central Cee, Miley Cyrus, Marshmello, Polo G, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again. His achievements include multiple ARIA Music Awards, APRA Music Awards, and international award nominations, making him one of Australia’s most successful contemporary recording artists.
Early life
The Kid Laroi was born Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard on August 17, 2003, in Waterloo, New South Wales, Australia, to parents Nick Howard, a music producer and sound engineer, and Sloan Howard, a talent manager and record executive. His stage name Laroi is derived from his maternal great-great-grandfather’s connection to the Kamilaroi people of New South Wales, an Indigenous Australian community. Howard’s parents separated when he was four years old. At seven, he moved with his mother and younger brother Austin to Broken Hill, a remote mining town in regional New South Wales, and then briefly relocated to Adelaide before returning to Sydney in 2017.
After being evicted from their housing commission flat in Redfern following noise complaints, Howard and his mother spent a period couch-surfing before he attended Australian Performing Arts Grammar School on a scholarship, which he later dropped out of in year nine to pursue music full-time.
Juice WRLD and “F*ck Love”
Howard first gained wider attention in 2018 when he became a finalist in the Triple J Unearthed competition, and the same year opened for American rapper Juice WRLD on his Australian tour, performing alongside him during the run of shows. The two formed a close mentorship, with Juice WRLD inviting Howard to the United States and introducing him to key figures in the American music industry. In 2019, Howard signed a joint deal with Lil Bibby’s Grade A Productions and Columbia Records, releasing his major label debut single “Let Her Go.” In June 2020, he and Juice WRLD released the collaborative single “Go,” which entered the top 40 in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. When Juice WRLD died of an accidental drug overdose in December 2019, at age 21, Howard was devastated and wrote “Tell Me Why” as a direct tribute to his late mentor.
Howard’s debut mixtape, Fck Love, followed in July 2020, reaching number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, making him the youngest Australian solo act to top the chart, and eventually peaking at number three on the Billboard 200. The mixtape produced two major reissues: Fck Love (Savage), which contained “Without You,” later remixed with Miley Cyrus and peaking in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and F*ck Love (Over You), which contained “Stay.”
Global breakthrough
Howard’s global breakthrough was solidified through his collaboration with Justin Bieber on “Stay,” released in July 2021, which became a massive international hit, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the charts in multiple countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and several European nations, and it earned multi-platinum certifications worldwide. “Stay” was co‑written and co‑produced with Omer Fedi, Cashmere Cat, and Charlie Puth, and its music video was directed by Colin Tilley. The song made Howard, then 17, one of the youngest artists to top the Hot 100 in the chart’s history. It was supported by his Saturday Night Live debut, on which he performed “Without You” with Miley Cyrus. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022, he received a nomination for Best New Artist and Push Performance of the Year. He won Best Artist and Best Pop Release at the 2021 ARIA Awards and became the highest-charting Indigenous Australian artist in the history of the Triple J Hottest 100, with “Stay” ranking at number two.

Collaborations
Howard has collaborated with some of the most prominent artists across pop, rap, and R&B. Alongside his work with Juice WRLD and Justin Bieber, he released “Without You” remixed with Miley Cyrus, “I Guess It’s Love?” with Polo G, and “Too Much” with South Korean singer Jung Kook of BTS and British rapper Central Cee in October 2023. He collaborated with Canadian singer Tate McRae on “I Know Love,” featured on her 2025 album So Close to What. He held a virtual concert in Fortnite in early 2023 titled “The Kid LAROI’s Wild Dreams.” Subsequently, he has made guest appearances on tracks by Lil Tecca, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Future. In May 2022, he partnered with McDonald’s Australia to launch his own meal, consisting of six chicken nuggets, medium fries, a cheeseburger with no pickles, barbecue sauce, and a frozen Coca-Cola. That same month, he donated $100,000 to a youth service he had attended as a child in the Waterloo suburb of Sydney.
Studio albums
Howard’s debut studio album, The First Time, was released on November 10, 2023, through Grade A Productions and Columbia Records, featuring guest appearances from YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Future, and d4vd. It debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 and number three on the ARIA Albums Chart. A deluxe edition followed in 2024, adding five tracks, including “Nights Like This Part 2” and fan favorite “Girls.” His second studio album, Before I Forget, was released on January 9, 2026, through Columbia Records, a 15-track introspective project introduced by the singles “A Cold Play,” “A Perfect World,” and “Back When You Were Mine.” Before I Forget debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, earning 41,000 equivalent album units in its first week with over 30 million on-demand streams, becoming his second top-ten entry on the chart. He has accumulated over 40.5 million monthly Spotify listeners as of June 2026.
World tour
Howard launched The First Time Tour in 2024 in support of his debut studio album. The North American leg ran from March to May 2024, followed by the Australian leg in November and December 2024, which opened with a sold-out show at HOTA on the Gold Coast before running through Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, and Melbourne. At the Brisbane Entertainment Centre show, he paid a public tribute to Juice WRLD during the performance. In February 2026, he announced A Perfect World Tour in support of Before I Forget, produced by Live Nation. The tour launched on April 27, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with American singer-rapper Tommy Richman as direct support on all North American dates. The North American leg includes stops in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto, and Houston before the tour moves to the UK and Europe, with dates in London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
Personal life
Howard has been based in Los Angeles with his mother and younger brother Austin since 2020. He dated TikTok influencer Katarina Deme from 2020 to 2023 and has stated that his breakup with Deme directly inspired tracks on The First Time. In April 2024, he confirmed a relationship with Canadian singer Tate McRae, which ended in July 2025. His second studio album Before I Forget is widely considered to be influenced by that breakup.
Howard released a documentary about his life and career, Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About A Kid Named Laroi, in February 2024, which covers his rise in the industry and pays tribute to Juice WRLD. He made his acting debut in the A24 horror-comedy film Y2K in 2024.
Away from music, Howard is a supporter of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League, the club based in Redfern, where he spent part of his childhood.
