What religion is Roddy Ricch?

Roddy Ricch is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer who identifies as a Christian and was raised attending church in Compton, California. Ricch was baptized at the age of 7, and his mother tried to steer him toward making Christian rap instead of secular music.

Roddy Ricch established himself as one of hip-hop’s leading artists with Feed Tha Streets II and the platinum-certified single “Die Young,” which became his first Billboard Hot 100 hit. His collaboration with Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy on “Racks in the Middle” earned the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, while “Ballin'” with Mustard became his first top-20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial (2019), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced “The Box,” which spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1, received RIAA Diamond certification, and became one of the best-selling songs of 2020. His feature on DaBaby‘s “Rockstar” gave him a second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single, while “High Fashion” featuring Mustard and “Late at Night” became additional top-20 hits.

Among his many career achievements, Roddy Ricch has earned 10 Grammy Award nominations, winning one for “Racks in the Middle.” He has also won two BET Awards, two BET Hip Hop Awards, and an American Music Award. His third studio album, The Navy Album, remains one of the most anticipated unreleased projects in hip-hop following several postponements.

Early life

Roddy Ricch was born Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr. on October 22, 1998, in Watts, Los Angeles, and later grew up in Compton, California. He was raised by his mother and spent time between her home in South Central Los Angeles and his grandparents’ house in Compton. At age 16, Ricch was kicked out of his home after clashes with his stepfather. Ricch was educated at Carson High School and Compton High School, where he played basketball. He started rapping when he was eight years old and, at the age of twelve, performed a freestyle for Kendrick Lamar, who is also from Compton.

Early mixtapes

Ricch released his debut mixtape, Feed Tha Streets, in November 2017 through his independent imprint Bird Vision Entertainment, featuring songs including “Chase Tha Bag,” “Hoodricch,” and “Fucc It Up.” The project earned praise from Meek Mill, Nipsey Hussle, and DJ Mustard. In March 2018, he released the EP Be 4 Tha Fame. In May 2018, Nipsey Hussle brought him out as a special guest at a PowerHouse concert in Los Angeles. His second mixtape, Feed Tha Streets II, was released on November 2, 2018, and peaked at number 67 on the Billboard 200. Ricch had a brief stint in county jail around the time of its release. The mixtape produced the singles “Die Young,” written the night XXXTentacion was shot and killed on June 18, 2018, and dedicated to XXXTentacion, Lil Snupe, and Speaker Knockerz, and “Every Season,” both of which were certified platinum. “Die Young” was his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. In October 2018, Meek Mill brought him out as a special guest at a Philadelphia PowerHouse concert and gifted him a “Dreamchasers” chain for appearing on his fourth studio album, Championships.

Mainstream breakthrough

In February 2019, Ricch was featured alongside Hit-Boy on Nipsey Hussle’s single “Racks in the Middle,” which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020. In June 2019, he appeared on DJ Mustard’s “Ballin’,” which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance. Six months later, in December 2019, he signed with Atlantic Records to release his debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, through Atlantic Records and Bird Vision Entertainment. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was the most-streamed album globally in 2020. It won Album of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2020 Apple Music Awards. DaBaby’s “Rockstar” featuring Ricch became his second number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020. In 2020, Ricch tied with The Weeknd for being the most nominated artist at the 2020 American Music Awards, both receiving eight nominations.

“The Box”

“The Box” was released in December 2019 as part of Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial and became Roddy Ricch’s breakout single and first number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song features a distinctive squeaky sound that has been described as resembling a windshield wiper or a squeaky door, and it built much of its viral success through TikTok memes and dance videos. “The Box” reached number one in early January 2020 and held the top spot for 11 consecutive weeks, blocking other major artists from reaching the summit and becoming one of the most streamed songs globally in 2020. The track also generated hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify and other platforms, and it has been widely cited as a defining viral hip-hop hit of the early 2020s.

In February 2024, a federal judge dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit alleging “The Box” copied elements from the 1975 song “Come On Down” by Greg Perry, ruling that no reasonable jury could find substantial similarity between the two works.

Later albums

Ricch released his sophomore studio album, Live Life Fast, in December 2021, featuring Lil Baby, 21 Savage, and Gunna, among others. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. In June 2022, he released the EP The Big 3, featuring the Mustard-produced track “Real Talk.” His third mixtape installment, Feed Tha Streets III, was released on November 18, 2022, with features from Lil Durk and Ty Dolla Sign, reaching number 14 on the Billboard 200. In 2023, he appeared on tracks by Trippie Redd and Gucci Mane. In 2024, he released “Survivor’s Remorse” as the lead single for his third studio album, The Navy Album, followed by “Lonely Road” featuring Terrace Martin. He contributed “Underdog” to the F1: The Movie soundtrack in 2025. The Navy Album had been delayed multiple times with no explanation from Ricch or his team as of mid-2026.

Personal life

Ricch has a son with his ex-girlfriend Allie Minati, born in April 2020. In May 2024, he reached a settlement in a child custody dispute with another ex-girlfriend, Alexandra Kiser, agreeing to joint legal custody of their son, a 25 percent physical custody timeshare, $8,000 in monthly child support, a $1,000 monthly car stipend, and $37,500 to cover her legal fees. He subsequently welcomed a daughter named Navy with his partner Timaera.

In 2021, a shooting occurred during the filming of a music video for him and 42 Dugg, in which three people were injured. Ricch was arrested on a domestic violence charge, the details of which were not widely publicly disclosed. In 2022, he told journalists that Canadian border patrol repeatedly denied him entry into Vancouver and publicly described the repeated incidents as harassment.

Real estate

Ricch entered the high-end property market in 2021 by purchasing a residential estate in Beverly Hills, California, for $5.6 million. The private property spans over 3,400 square feet and features a four-bedroom, five-bathroom architectural layout enclosed by private lawns. He listed the house for sale in October 2022 for $5.9 million, eventually lowering the asking price to $5.75 million in early 2023. The artist finalized the sale of the Beverly Hills property in September 2023 for a closing price of $4,995,000.
