What religion is Ella Langley?

Ella Langley is an American country singer-songwriter who is an openly professing Christian with a strong Southern Baptist background. Langley has repeatedly said she has been a believer in Christ her whole life, but her relationship with God deepened significantly in the past year. In context, Langley has boldly thanked Jesus Christ for giving her the ability to pursue a music career on live television. At the 2026 Academy of Country Music Awards, she said, “Thank you, Jesus, for letting me do this job for a living. Thank you.”

Ella Langley was raised in Hope Hull, Alabama. She began performing at local venues and festivals as a teenager, inspired by a mix of traditional country artists and rock icons like Stevie Nicks. Taught by her dad to play guitar at age 14, she initially balanced her passion for music with a competitive streak in rodeo and sports. However, determined to pursue a creative future, she eventually dropped out of Auburn University, where she had been studying forestry, and moved to Nashville in 2019 to fully immerse herself in the country music community.

Langley initially built her audience through relentless public performances and sharing acoustic clips on social media, which caught the attention of industry insiders and led to her signing a record deal. Her mainstream breakthrough arrived with her 2024 debut studio album, Hungover, which featured the viral, chart-climbing hit “You Look Like You Love Me” alongside Riley Green. The project showcased her signature blend of raw, rock-infused country production with authentic Southern storytelling, positioning her as one of the most compelling new voices in Nashville. She solidified that identity with her sophomore record, Dandelion, a deeply praised album that further highlighted her commanding vocals and traditional roots.

Her rise accelerated quickly into historic territory. Powered by the multi-week, history-making success of her single “Choosin’ Texas,” she became the first woman to simultaneously lead the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts. This rapid success translated to major industry accolades, culminating in back-to-back victories at the 61st ACM Awards, where she walked away with Single of the Year for “Choosin’ Texas” and the coveted Female Artist of the Year honor.

Early life

Ella Langley was born Elizabeth Camille Langley on May 3, 1999, in Hope Hull, Alabama. She is the daughter of Jason and Heather Langley, and she is the second-oldest of four children, growing up with an older brother, Thomas, a younger brother, Stuart, and a younger sister, Katie. During Ella’s youth, her father worked as a local business owner, and her parents raised their family with faith and music as core childhood pillars. Langley’s family listened to a diverse mix of music, ranging from traditional country and disco to ’80s new wave and rock bands like Pearl Jam and Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Langley grew up on a farm in a rural town just outside of Montgomery, Alabama. When she was a teenager, she spent much of her childhood acting like a tomboy to prove she was as tough and fearless as her brothers. In her early years, she balanced her life on the farm with a competitive edge in sports and rodeo, but she eventually picked up the guitar at age 14 after being taught by her father. As a young aspiring artist, she built her confidence by playing acoustic cover gigs at tiny local bars and venues around Alabama, saving her earnings to pave her way toward the music industry.

Career

Ella Langley dropped out of college at age 20 and moved to Tennessee to pursue a full-time music career. Before Nashville, she had spent her free time at Auburn University playing covers at bars and restaurants for four hours at a stretch, multiple nights a week. She gained early support from independent country platforms like Raised Rowdy and 65 South and managed to get her first publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing Nashville in 2021. That same year she released “If You Have To,” previewing it on TikTok before its official release. In early 2022 she joined Randy Houser as a guest artist on his tour before being named Spotify’s Hot Country Artist to Watch for 2023. She also toured with artists including Jon Pardi, Cody Johnson, and Jamey Johnson during this period. In February 2023, she signed a record deal with Sony Music Nashville and Columbia Records and made her Grand Ole Opry debut that same month. Her debut EP, Excuse the Mess, was released on May 19, 2023, featuring eight songs that speak to her one-of-a-kind artistry, including a collaboration with Koe Wetzel called “That’s Why We Fight.” Langley co-wrote every track on the project and described it as a full portrait of who she is. The EP garnered over 120 million total streams within a year of its release.

Langley’s debut studio album, Hungover, was released through Sawgod and Columbia Records on August 2, 2024, with Langley co-writing all 14 of its tracks, produced by Will Bundy. The song “You Look Like You Love Me” began with an offhand joke Langley made about her love life during a writing session, and the emerging work tape was deemed so hilarious she was asked to add it to the album. Co-written by Langley, Riley Green, and Aaron Raitiere, the song was released on June 21, 2024. It won Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year at the CMA Awards, as well as Single of the Year, Visual Media of the Year, and Music Event of the Year at the ACM Awards, and is certified 3x Platinum, selling over three million units. The song reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in December 2024, snapping a 51-week streak of male artists holding the lead spot.

On January 27, 2026, Langley formally announced her second album, Dandelion, and it was released through Sawgod and Columbia Records on April 10, 2026, executive produced by Langley, Miranda Lambert, and Ben West. The lead single “Choosin’ Texas” was released on October 17, 2025; co-written with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert, and Joybeth Taylor; and produced at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville. The song made history as the first by a female artist to simultaneously top the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts. The album’s second single, “Be Her,” followed in March 2026, and a reissue released on April 24, 2026, added a collaboration with Morgan Wallen on “I Can’t Love You Anymore.” At the 2025 CMA Awards, Langley won three trophies, including Song and Single of the Year for “You Look Like You Love Me,” and a month later won seven trophies at the ACM Awards in May 2026, breaking the record for the most wins in a single year.

Personal life

Ella Langley purchased a $2.5 million lakefront estate near Montgomery, Alabama, that she has called essential for her mental health and grounding between tour runs, and outside of music, she is an avid bow-hunter who takes regular trips into the outdoors with her father. In August 2025, feeling “more run down than ever,” she made the hard decision to postpone her shows, cancel appearances, and go completely dark on social media for several weeks.

Beyond music, she is a founding board member of the Pawsitive Rescue Division, a nonprofit pet rescue organization dedicated to placing pets in forever homes.

Other ventures

In recognition of her growing stature as both artist and writer, Billboard named her recipient of its Women in Music Powerhouse Award on April 29, 2026, in Los Angeles. In February 2026, American Eagle named her their “Denim Darling” ambassador for their spring campaign. American Eagle also sponsored the Stagecoach festival that spring, with Langley performing there as part of the partnership. In addition, she participated in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Music Gives to St. Jude Kids fundraising campaign in 2025, appearing in promotional materials for the charity’s annual shirt initiative, and became a formal ambassador for the organization that same year.
