What religion is Bebe Rexha?
Bebe Rexha is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who comes from an Albanian Muslim family background.
Bebe Rexha began her professional music career as the lead vocalist of Black Cards in 2010 before transitioning into songwriting. She co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s Grammy Award-winning hit “The Monster,” along with songs for artists including Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, and Shinee. She signed with Warner Records and released her debut EP, I Don’t Wanna Grow Up (2015), which featured the international single “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy.” Rexha established herself as a global pop star through hit collaborations including “Hey Mama” with David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, and Afrojack; “Me, Myself & I” with G-Eazy; “In the Name of Love” with Martin Garrix; and “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line. “Meant to Be” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, spent a record-breaking 50 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and earned a Grammy Award nomination. Her debut studio album, Expectations (2018), reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200, produced the platinum-certified single “I’m a Mess,” and earned her a Best New Artist nomination at the 61st Grammy Awards.
She released Better Mistakes (2021), Bebe (2023), and Dirty Blonde (2026). Her 2022 collaboration with David Guetta, “I’m Good (Blue),” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the charts in more than 20 countries, and became one of the best-selling dance-pop singles of the decade. Throughout her career, Bebe Rexha has received four Grammy Award nominations and won several major honors, including two Billboard Music Awards, an Academy of Country Music Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and multiple international music awards.
Early life
Bebe Rexha was born Bleta Rexha on August 30, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York, to Albanian parents from North Macedonia. Her father, Flamur Rexha, left Yugoslavia at age 21 and came to the United States, while her mother, Bukurije Rexha, was born in the U.S. to an Albanian family from Gostivar. The family name “Rexha” is Albanian, and her parents and others in their community called her “Bebe,” which became her stage name. At six years old, her family relocated to Staten Island, New York, where she grew up alongside her younger brother, Florent. During her high school years, Rexha participated in the school choir and performed in musical theater productions. She studied several instruments and acquired the skills to play the trumpet, piano, and guitar.
Songwriting beginnings
Rexha won the “Best Teen Songwriter” award at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences’ annual Grammy Day, which introduced her to music producers. Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz formed the electronic dance-ska band Black Cards in July 2010 and hired Rexha as the lead vocalist after listening to her demo recordings at a New York studio. She recorded vocals for the group’s singles and performed at their live shows until her departure in January 2012. She subsequently signed a songwriting contract and co-wrote “The Monster,” recorded by Eminem and Rihanna, which won a Grammy Award. Her additional songwriting credits include tracks for Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, and Iggy Azalea.
Solo debut
Rexha signed an official recording contract as a solo artist with Warner Records in 2013. She released her debut solo single, “I Can’t Stop Drinking About You,” in 2014. This was followed by her debut extended play (EP), titled I Don’t Wanna Grow Up, which was released in May 2015. The project produced the moderate international hit single “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy.” During this period, Rexha established her presence on the global charts through a series of high-profile vocal collaborations, including “Me, Myself & I” with rapper G-Eazy and “In the Name of Love” with electronic producer Martin Garrix. These releases set the foundation for her debut full-length studio album, Expectations, which was released in 2018.
“Better Mistakes” album era
Rexha released her second full-length studio album, Better Mistakes, on May 7, 2021, under Warner Records. The project served as a direct follow-up to her debut album Expectations (2018) and included guest appearances by Travis Barker, Ty Dolla Sign, Trevor Daniel, Lil Uzi Vert, Doja Cat, Pink Sweats, Lunay, and Rick Ross. The album was preceded by singles such as “Baby, I’m Jealous,” “Sacrifice,” and “Sabotage,” and most of the recording took place in the summer and autumn of 2019 before the COVID‑19 pandemic. The opening track “Break My Heart Myself,” featuring Travis Barker, directly references Rexha’s experience with bipolar disorder, and she has described the album as a more personal project focused on her mistakes in relationships and career. Better Mistakes debuted at number 140 on the Billboard 200, marking her lowest placement on that chart at the time.
Dirty Blonde
Rexha departed her contract with Warner Records and signed a partnership agreement with Empire Distribution. On June 12, 2026, she released her fourth studio album, Dirty Blonde, which contains 13 tracks and represents a phase of complete creative autonomy. The album features production and collaborations with David Guetta and the British dance music group Faithless. Her single “New Religion” was released on March 6, 2026.
Personal life
Rexha resides in Los Angeles, California. She has been highly transparent about her physical and mental health journeys, publicly disclosing her diagnosis of bipolar disorder as well as her experiences navigating Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Rexha uses her public platform to advocate for body positivity and remains a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. Rexha, who identifies as fluid, ended a long-term relationship with Keyan Safyari in 2023.
