OUR STORY AND PURPOSE
Who We Are
The foundation of artists’ religion is their understanding that music is, at its core, a spiritual act, something that music theory textbooks will never impart. You already understand what we mean, whether you are leading worship for thousands of people, strumming a guitar in a little chapel, creating gospel rhythms at two in the morning, or writing instrumental compositions that make complete strangers cry in the middle of a concert hall.
Music is not just something you do. It is something that moves through you. And we built this space to honor that truth.
We came together as a group of authors, worshippers, producers, session musicians, and music educators because we kept having the same discussions about religion, calling, and what it means to truly carry music as a gift. We decided it was time to put an end to those private discussions and begin creating an internet home for them.
What We Do
Musicians’ Religion covers the space where art and spirituality collide. You will find honest, deeply researched, and experience-driven content on topics like the spiritual disciplines of musicians, the theology of worship music, how different faiths and traditions use music as a vehicle for the sacred, the mental and spiritual health of performers, and the life of a musician who takes their calling seriously.
This isn’t a church bulletin. We’re also not a blog about music gear. You will feel completely at home here if you have ever felt like you didn’t quite fit in either world. We are something in between.
Our content is intended for those who have sat at a piano and questioned whether their music mattered, who have debated whether worshiping God and performing for an audience are the same thing or quite different things, and who wish to develop as entire human beings as well as artists.
Our Core Beliefs
Music Is Sacred
We believe every note played with intention carries spiritual weight. We take that seriously in everything we publish.
Faith Deserves Depth
We go beyond surface-level devotionals. We dig into the real, sometimes messy, always beautiful relationship between faith and music.
Honest Writing Only
We do not dress up platitudes as insight. Everything we publish is written by people who have lived the questions they are writing about.
“The musician who understands their calling understands one of the oldest forms of prayer.”
